Ione Tribal Housing Department
The Ione Band of Miwok Indians (“Tribe”) currently offers housing assistance under the Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) Programs, which are funded by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development Native American Housing and Self-Determination Act (NAHASDA).
The Housing Assistance Programs fall under the guidance of the Federal Regulations (24 CFR Part 1000). This regulation establishes the general requirements regarding eligibility as well as the basic guidelines for qualifying for all 5 Housing Programs.
These programs include the following;
1. Elder Rental Assistance—Helping Elders pay their rent
2. Rental Deposit Assistance—Providing up to $ 500 toward Rental Deposit
3. Emergency Housing Assistance—Providing up to $ 1,000 to Prevent Homelessness
4. Down Payment Assistance—Providing up to $ 5,000 towards Down Payment
5. Home Rehab and Improvement—Providing Assistance for Home Rehab and Improvement
The Tribe is charged with the responsibility of establishing the specific minimum requirements for eligibility and qualifications for each of the Housing Programs offered. Eligibility is based on number different criteria to include being a Tribal Member, low income, availability of grant funds and others.
Housing Department is also subject to the Indian Civil Rights Act (Title II of the civil Right Act of 1968, 25 USC 1301-03) that provides, among other things, that no Indian Tribe in exercising powers of Self-Government shall deny due process or the equal protection of its laws to any person within its jurisdiction.
